Phone calls claiming to be from the IRS, ICE, or local police threatening immediate arrest unless you pay fines via gift cards or cryptocurrency are 100% scams. Federal agencies will never demand immediate payment over the phone; they always initiate contact via official mail.
Even if you have legitimate debt, debt collectors cannot harass you. Calling late at night, using profane language, or disclosing your debt to your employer or family violates the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). You can report abusive collectors to the government.
